What’s the History of Irvington, Oregon?

The history of Irvington starts in 1864. At that time, Joseph Irving and his brother, David, settled their cattle near the Siletz River. Then in 1873, several more Irvings (Joseph and his four sons) joined them in the cattle business. It was here that they started the town of Irvington. In 1885, Lawrence Scott, a member of the town’s irrigation committee, discovered gold in the nearby hills. After quickly packing up his family, they left their farm and rushed to Gold Hill where they staked their claim. Then in 1911, Irvington had a fire that destroyed several buildings and killed one person. This was the first time the town was recorded with a population of over 100 people.
